“We are a nation of laws and not men,” said Cruz. “If we had a system where a president can pick and choose what laws to follow at utter whim … that is seriously dangerous.”
Other than the verb “had” in there, I’m fully behind that statement. A president who decides which laws to follow (and by extension, which laws others should follow) is no different than a king, a czar, or even a dictator.
There is a reason cash and investors are leaving Argentina and Venezuela — leaders who believe themselves to be the law. Imagine for a moment what would happen in this country were the President to exercise all of the power he appears to believe he has.
Yeah. We wouldn’t be a republic anymore, would we?
