Tar and Feathers and Riding on a Rail

The age of the railroads is no more (sorry, EC Crooks). However, Amtrak, like most government-sustained organisms, is unwilling to admit it:

This is the dirty secret of American rail: There aren’t enough passengers to cover the costs of operating railroads. Cars are more convenient over short distances, planes are much faster over long ones, and buses offer more flexible service at much lower prices.

Those who continue to throw public money (i.e., our tax dollars and our children’s future earnings) into a system which is inefficient and expensive would benefit from some tar and feathers. Of course, we don’t do that any more, so I’ll settle for simply having them out of town before sunset.
