Giving Thanks, Not Giving Up

I confess to being played out with reference to matters political–hence the two-week break from posting to this place. Nonetheless, there is much to do, and it is past time that I am back at it.

Among other things, since last I wrote here, I’ve moved most of my electronic life to a new laptop. While my old box had managed to survive for 6 years, it was getting to the point where I couldn’t get newer versions of most applications to run on it (and it would sometimes take 2 or 3 tries before starting up). Our recent sale of our house made the laptop purchase possible, along with a number of other things which have been on standby for several months.

I have much to be thankful for–and not just the need to have and nice to have material things. Despite the beating which conservative, fiscally-sound thinking took in this recent election, we still have greater freedom in this country than is available in many/most other countries in the world. This does not mean we do not mourn the loss of freedoms which are no longer, but it should serve to give all of us a measuring stick against which we can realistically judge matters.

The very fact that I can write these words without fear of reprisal from the authorities is a wonderful thing. We must keep up the fight so that future writers and readers can enjoy the same freedoms which we do–and more.

As noted in the previous post, I am attempting to determine if there is a better approach to my writing in this space than I have used. I may well be trying out a few different things over the next while as I attempt to most efficiently use the time and space which I have been given. Your thoughts on what works and what does not work as well would be appreciated.
