It’s been a while since I’ve addressed the bill that would allow for law-abiding permanent residents to procure concealed carry permits. In brief, the bill originated in the House, where it passed at 66 to 2 (w/2 non-votes). It has now progressed to the Senate and is currently in committee. Unless something goes remarkably awry, I anticipate that the bill will pass the committee (and the full Senate) with a diminished level of support, but still well above what is needed to send it on to the governor’s desk. It is also probable that Governor Daugaard will sign the bill into law.
By the time people stop wearing these great big parkas in a few weeks, it may well be legal for more of us to carry concealed.
