Reason to Grieve

Do we not all understand that while “a word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver” the opposite is abhorrent?

In response to The Daily Caller’s request for comment on a video showing progressive protesters calling for somebody to “string up” African American Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, or “send him back into the fields” or “cut off all his toes and feed them to him one-by-one,” NAACP spokesman Hilary Shelton pointed to the organization’s recent resolution calling for a “civil political discourse.”

Shelton would not, however, address the content of the video directly.

No, the NAACP is not responsible for policing the individuals who let the their bitterness and hatred find voice in the referenced video. However, as perhaps the premier organization established to combat racism, the NAACP could surely do better with reference to vitriolic attacks upon a person whose very existence is testimony to how far we have left an evil period in our history behind us.

As John at PowerLine notes with reference to the inability to “address the content of the video directly:

Of course not. The racists in the video are Democrats. This reminds me of the time when Jesse Jackson was asked to come out against slavery, and the response from his office was “Right now slavery is not on his agenda.” Of course not. There’s no money in opposing it.

Were I a communist, I might call this a triumph of capitalism over reason. Since I am a capitalist, I grieve for the triumph of greed over honesty.
