70 years ago today. I’ve lived through the last half of that time. My parents lived through the first half without me.
I can imagine the horrors of the attack and the military campaigns which followed. I can imagine the privations which both civilian and military personnel suffered for the next several years. I can imagine the need for victory gardens, scrap metal drives, and ration books.
I can imagine all of this and more. But I have never experienced it.
To those who did: thank you for doing what needed to be done. Your numbers will diminish, but your place in history will not.
