From the city of brotherly love:
Former Philadelphia schools superintendent Arlene Ackerman, who was given a nearly $1-million buyout earlier this year, has applied for unemployment.
School District spokesman Fernando Gallard today confirmed that Ackerman wants to collect state unemployment benefits.
After receiving a buyout (translation: we pay you to get out of our hair because it would cost us more in legal fees to fire you) of $905,000, the superintendent wishes to receive her $573 weekly unemployment stipend. I do not know how long she would continue to be eligible for this, but it does work out to about $30,000 per year.
Illegal? No. Unethical? Perhaps. Immoral? Yes.
