The headline on the the article “Cattleman Surprised By Legal Bill From Meatpacker” caught my attention, but the following paragraph stopped me abruptly in my mental tracks:
Schumacher and other cattlemen planned to gather at his home Friday to discuss their efforts to boost cattle prices by increasing competition in the market.
Absent other factors (increasing demand, increasing quality in product, etc) prices for products are not boosted by increasing competition. Methinks the reporter should have known to solicit some more information to clarify.
Either that, or this may be as big as cold fusion, if one can increase prices by increasing competition.
