What is Essential? Encore
From the files of government spending (at the state level in South Dakota) we have the following convoluted statement:
But Chicoine said the request doesn’t impose on the school what many are calling a “hiring freeze.” Instead, it will amount to a “due diligence” process ensuring that school administrators take a closer look at openings and only fill essential positions, he said.
“It’s not that we don’t have these procedures in place normally,” he said. “We are just going to provide another layer of oversight (in regards to hiring) these positions.”
I suppose I must confess that I thought government-run organizations were always and only filling essential positions. If I want to fill a non-essential position, I shouldn’t be doing it on the taxpayer’s dime, should I?
